Laura Erekson

Laura creates art that invites others to engage--mentally, emotionally, and even, at times, physically.  Her work examines broad themes (including time, nature, identity, and faith) while also being intensely personal, allowing viewers to feel intimately connected to the artist.  Each piece is grounded firmly in the medium, and she often explores the boundaries of the materials she is working with.

Laura was born in Oakland, California and currently lives and works in Salt Lake City, Utah. She received her BFA from Brigham Young University in drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, as well as her MAT from George Mason University. Her printmaking and sculpture background heavily influence her current body of work. Using found objects in her process, her paintings are rich in texture, leaving behind color or fragments of material from the actual objects themselves. Often times her works appear in this natural and raw state, but when color is added it is predominantly in washes and rubbings of ink. Laura's work has been exhibited in Maryland, Virginia, Utah, New York City, and in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.
