Public Art Installation
Rooted is a fifteen-foot steel sugar beet sculpture created as a tribute to West Jordan’s agricultural heritage and the historic sugar beet factory that shaped the community’s early economy. Needle-nose pliers were embedded into the surface to create rich texture and to honor the everyday tools and labor of the farming families who cultivated the land as well as the factory workers who processed the sugar beets.

This work celebrates the deep connections between community, agriculture, and place. Rooted invites viewers—children and adults alike—to see their local history with new wonder. The tactile textures, playful details, and approachable form encourage interaction, making the sculpture both a visual landmark and a physical experience.

Rooted is ultimately a reminder of the stories held in the soil: resilience, hard work, growth, and the enduring impact of the people who shaped this region.
